Questions, answered plainly.
Everything people usually ask before working with us. Can’t find yours? Call or email and we’ll answer it directly.
What kinds of businesses does Richland work with?
Growing small and mid-sized businesses that rely on technology every day but don’t want to run IT themselves, from teams with no IT staff to companies that need extra depth beside an internal person.
What makes Richland different from a break-fix IT shop?
Break-fix gets paid when things break. We work to stop problems before they happen, keep your systems documented and plan ahead with you, so technology becomes predictable.
Do you only sell monthly plans?
Managed IT is usually a monthly plan, but projects such as migrations, security assessments, AI readiness reviews and roadmaps can be scoped on their own.
How do we get started?
Book a consultation. We’ll learn about your business, review your current setup and recommend clear next steps. There’s no obligation.
What does managed IT actually include?
Day-to-day support for your people plus the behind-the-scenes work that keeps systems healthy: monitoring, updates, device setup, network care and account management. We agree on the exact scope with you up front so nothing is a surprise.
We already have an IT person. Can you work alongside them?
Yes. Many businesses use us to back up an internal person, take the routine work off their plate, or cover the areas they don’t specialise in, like security.
How is pricing structured?
Managed IT is usually a predictable monthly plan based on the people and devices we support. We’ll scope it with you after a short assessment so the plan matches what you actually need.
How do we get started?
Book a consultation. We’ll learn how your business runs, review your current setup and walk you through a clear onboarding plan.
We’re a small business. Are we really a target?
Yes. Many attacks are automated and look for easy openings rather than specific companies. Small businesses are often hit because their defences are thinner, which is exactly what layered security fixes.
Will security slow my team down?
Done well, it shouldn’t. We pick protections that work quietly in the background and keep the steps your people do see, like multi-factor sign-in, quick and simple.
Can you help with cyber-insurance requirements?
We can help you understand what an insurer is asking for, put the matching controls in place and document them, so the questionnaire is easier to answer honestly.
What happens if we get hit?
Part of the work is building an incident plan before you need it: who to call, what to disconnect, how to restore and who to notify. If something happens, we work that plan with you.
Do we have to move everything to the cloud?
No. Some systems make sense to move and some don’t. We’ll recommend what to move, what to keep and why, based on cost, performance and risk.
Will a migration interrupt our work?
We plan migrations in stages, often outside business hours, and test before switching anyone over. Your team gets clear instructions and support on the day.
Isn’t Microsoft 365 already backed up by Microsoft?
Microsoft keeps the service running, but protecting your data from deletion, ransomware or a departing employee is your responsibility. A separate backup closes that gap.
Why does a clean cloud setup matter for AI?
AI assistants like Copilot can only see what your permissions allow. If sharing is messy, AI can surface files to the wrong people. Getting the cloud right first is the safest path to AI.
Is AI safe for our business data?
It can be, with the right setup. That means approved tools, permissions that are cleaned up first and a written policy for what can be shared. Security is built into the first step of our process, not added later.
Do we need Microsoft Copilot?
Not necessarily. Copilot is a strong fit for teams that live in Microsoft 365, but some goals are better served by automation or other tools. The readiness assessment tells you which is worth paying for.
Will AI replace our staff?
Our focus is on removing the repetitive parts of jobs so your people have more time for customers and judgement calls. The best results come when the team helps choose what to automate.
How do we start if we’re not technical?
That’s who this is for. Start with a readiness conversation. We’ll translate the options into plain business terms and recommend one sensible first step.
How do you measure whether it worked?
Before a pilot starts we agree on what success looks like, such as hours saved, faster turnaround or fewer errors, and we measure against it before recommending anything bigger.
What’s the difference between backup and disaster recovery?
Backup is having copies of your data. Disaster recovery is the plan and the tools to get your systems running again quickly. You need both.
How often should backups run?
It depends on how much work you could afford to redo. Some data needs backing up many times a day, some once a night. We set the schedule around your answer.
Will backups protect us from ransomware?
Protected, separate copies are one of the most important defences. Combined with security on the front end, they mean you can restore instead of paying.
How do we know the backups actually work?
We test restores on a schedule and share the results with you, so you’re not finding out for the first time during an emergency.
What is a vCIO?
A virtual Chief Information Officer: an experienced technology advisor who works with your leadership part-time on planning, budgeting and big decisions, without the cost of a full-time executive.
Do we need managed IT to use strategy services?
No. Strategy works best alongside managed IT, but we can also advise on its own or alongside your existing IT team.
What do we actually get?
A documented assessment, a prioritised roadmap, a budget outline and regular reviews to keep it current. The format and cadence fit your size.
